SOMERSET COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Mendota Heights, MN, USA
Designed by Robert Moote, Seth Raynor

Somerset Country Club, nestled in the rolling landscape of Mendota Heights, stands as a testament to understated Midwestern golfing charm, a classic layout that values strategy over sheer power. The course, dating back to the early 20th century, possesses a parkland character, featuring mature trees that frame undulating fairways and subtly contoured greens. The terrain favors shot-shaping and thoughtful club selection, presenting a challenge to players of all skill levels. Its routing is known to present a variety of doglegs that reward those with a knack for placement rather than brute strength.
Designed originally by the renowned architect, Willie Park Jr., Somerset has benefited from thoughtful renovations over the years, preserving its original character while subtly enhancing playability. Though not a regular stop on professional tours, Somerset has played host to numerous state amateur championships, solidifying its place as a respected proving ground for the region's top players.
Somerset remains a revered local institution, known for its tight-knit membership and commitment to the traditions of the game. It’s the sort of place where golf is celebrated for its intrinsic values. While not necessarily vying for national recognition, Somerset holds a place of quiet pride among the courses of the Twin Cities, a beloved fixture in the landscape of Minnesota golf.
The club's unpretentious atmosphere is underscored by a longstanding reputation for its exceptional service and camaraderie. Word has it their Friday night fish fry is nearly as competitive as any match played on the course itself.
Reviews
A must see. Unique club with amazing greens, a creative Raynor layout, and some of the best conditions in the state. The kind of course you could play forever.
Has the potential to be much more. Improvements to the 3rd, 4th and 5th holes has helped, specifically restoring the Short template 5th on top of the hill with a view of downtown Minneapolis. A complete restoration would do it wonders, but still plenty of highlights here.
