Grandvalira Golf Soldeu occupies a distinctive position in the Pyrenees at approximately 1,800 meters elevation in the Andorran parish of Canillo, making it one of Europe's highest-altitude golf courses. British architect Jeremy Pern designed the nine-hole layout to work within the dramatic mountain terrain of the Grandvalira ski resort area, where the course operates seasonally during the warmer months when the slopes transition from winter sports to summer recreation. The routing navigates steep elevation changes and natural contours characteristic of alpine environments, with fairways carved into hillsides and greens positioned to take advantage of the topography. Players encounter significant uphill and downhill shots, and the thin air at this altitude affects ball flight noticeably, with drives carrying farther than at sea level. The surrounding landscape features the rugged peaks and valleys typical of the eastern Pyrenees, with views extending across the Valira d'Orient river valley.
