Sleepy Hollow Sports Park in Des Moines operates as a municipal facility offering golf among other recreational activities. The course was designed by Joe Hooker, though detailed records of its construction date and specific design philosophy are not widely documented in major golf architecture references. The facility serves the Des Moines area as an accessible public option within the city's park system. The course occupies terrain typical of central Iowa, characterized by gently rolling topography shaped by glacial activity. The landscape features mature tree growth that frames fairways and defines playing corridors, with seasonal creek drainage patterns that may come into play depending on conditions. As a municipal facility, the routing likely emphasizes playability for a broad range of skill levels while managing maintenance within public budget constraints. Sleepy Hollow functions primarily as a neighborhood course serving local residents and visitors seeking convenient golf in the Des Moines metropolitan area. The sports park designation indicates the facility includes amenities beyond golf, reflecting the multi-use approach common to municipal recreation properties. The course provides straightforward golf without the elaborate features or conditioning standards of private clubs or resort destinations, fitting its role within Iowa's public golf infrastructure.
