SILVER SPRING COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Ridgefield, CT, USA
Designed by Robert White

Silver Spring Country Club sits in Ridgefield, Connecticut, a town in Fairfield County known for its rolling terrain and wooded New England character. The course was designed by Robert White, a Scottish-born professional who became one of the early influential figures in American golf during the first half of the twentieth century. White served as the first president of the PGA of America and designed or contributed to several courses in the Northeast during an era when many clubs were establishing their layouts in the 1920s and 1930s.
The routing at Silver Spring takes advantage of the natural topography common to this part of Connecticut, with elevation changes and tree-lined fairways that define playing corridors and frame approach shots. Courses from this period in the region typically feature relatively compact layouts that move through wooded parcels, requiring accuracy off the tee and thoughtful club selection on approaches to greens that often sit on varied elevations. The design reflects the strategic principles of the era, emphasizing position and course management over pure length.
Silver Spring functions as a traditional private country club, serving its membership with golf as the central amenity alongside the usual social and dining facilities. The club has maintained its course through the decades while adapting to modern maintenance standards and member expectations. For those familiar with classic Northeastern layouts from the early twentieth century, Silver Spring represents the type of tree-lined, rolling parkland golf that characterizes many established clubs in the Connecticut and Westchester County corridor.
Reviews
Course was in phenomenal shape for Met Open qualifier. Some cool holes and some VERY quirky ones. Overall, too many doglegs for my liking
