SHORE GATE GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Ocean View, NJ, USA
Designed by David Dale, Ron Fream
Shore Gate Golf Club sits in Ocean View, a small community in Cape May County along New Jersey's southern coast. The course was designed by David Dale and Ron Fream, both architects known for their work on resort and daily-fee layouts during the late twentieth century. Fream, in particular, built an international practice with courses across Asia and the Americas, often emphasizing playability and strategic variety suited to a range of skill levels.
The routing takes advantage of the relatively flat coastal terrain typical of the region, where sandy soils and native vegetation provide natural drainage and a links-like aesthetic in places. Holes are generally open to the wind, which can shift club selection and strategy throughout a round. Water features and bunkers frame many fairways and greens, rewarding accurate shotmaking while offering recovery options for higher handicappers.
Shore Gate serves as a public facility in an area known for vacation golf, drawing visitors to the Jersey Shore alongside local play. The course fits into the broader Cape May County golf corridor, which includes several other daily-fee and resort tracks catering to summer tourism. The setting offers views of marshland and coastal vegetation, though the landscape remains modest compared to more dramatic seaside sites elsewhere in the Mid-Atlantic. The layout provides a straightforward test of golf without excessive length or severe hazards, consistent with its designers' approach to accessible, enjoyable course architecture.
Reviews
Over priced for what it is. Service is pretty bad. They threw a random 2 some with my group on hole 8 with a 2some who just showed up late. Rangers all over the place which you would think would make the round go faster but the front 9 was super slow. For the price of the round you’d expect to be able to get more than 12 included range balls. Was disappointed with the place for sure. Greens were fast though! Would recommend multiple other South jersey courses before.
Hidden gem in South Jersey. Brutally tough greens imo, more than a few multi-level greens where a couple yards can make a world of difference. Pretty good value, tons of picturesque holes
