SHINNECOCK HILLS GOLF COURSE
🇺🇸 Southampton, NY, USA
Designed by Willie Dunn Jr.

Shinnecock Hills isn’t merely a golf course; it’s a living museum of American golf, its rumpled fairways whispering tales of hickory shafts and guttie balls. Carved into the windswept, sandy loam of Long Island's South Fork, the links-style terrain evokes a sense of timeless challenge. Heather, fescue, and wispy grasses frame each hole, punishing errant shots with a ferocity that demands both strategy and strength.
Willie Davis laid out the original course, but subsequent revisions by William Flynn and, more recently, Coore & Crenshaw, have burnished Shinnecock’s reputation for strategic brilliance. This is not a layout that favors any particular style; rather, it tests every facet of a golfer’s game, demanding creativity and resilience in equal measure. The undulating greens, notoriously difficult to read, can turn a solid round into a humbling experience in a heartbeat.
Five U.S. Opens have graced Shinnecock's hallowed grounds, each adding another layer to its storied legacy. The club's deep-rooted connections to the New York elite are legendary. Shinnecock’s understated elegance and commitment to tradition ensures its place amongst the giants of the game.

Wonderful a magical experience just a great course
One word, perfect
Along with Oakmont, Shinnecock is the best and finest championship golf course the United States has in my estimation. Starting on the perimeter of the property and playing in a clockwise direction the first four holes. Beautiful scale and the most omnipresent stately clubhouse in the game. The ridge you ride to start the inward nine until you play to the flat on 15 is spectacular. The 11th is the most menacing shorter par 3 you’ll play. The post round meal on the porch is as fine a setting you’ll experience.
Shinnecock is a dream come true.
Best second shot golf course I’ve ever seen. You can hit every fairway and shoot 80. Second shot on hole 10 and the tee shot on 11 are probably two of the scariest shots I’ve ever had, with no real penalty other than massive slopes. Water isn’t necessary to create fear! Play it in the wrong wind and suddenly it’s as hard a golf course as they come.
An unbelievable experience. Played on a friday afternoon, and tuckahoe (road that goes thru course) was very busy. kindve unfortunate but that's just a minor complaint. unbelievable day
From arrival to coming off the 18th tee, you feel like you belong. The locker room and the clubhouse feels like a time capsule, so much history and tradition. The course speaks for itself on every hole with every single shot being thought provoking. It’s all about angles and where to leave your next shot, its design genius and the condition is just immaculate.
Just spectacular!
