Sheshan International Golf Club sits in the Songjiang district on the southwestern outskirts of Shanghai, occupying terrain at the base of Sheshan Mountain. The course was designed by Robin Nelson, a Hawaii-based architect known for work across the Pacific Rim, with Neil Haworth serving as co-designer. The layout takes advantage of the area's natural elevation changes and mature tree cover, relatively uncommon features in the Shanghai region's predominantly flat landscape.

The routing moves through forested corridors and incorporates water features across multiple holes, with the mountain providing a scenic backdrop throughout the round. The design emphasizes strategic bunkering and green complexes that reward precise approach play, characteristics typical of Nelson's portfolio. Several holes play along or across lakes and streams, adding both visual interest and strategic challenge to the layout.

Sheshan International has served as a venue on professional tours, most notably hosting events on the European Tour's Asian swing and the OneAsia Tour. The course gained international visibility through these tournaments, which brought top international fields to compete in Shanghai. The club operates as part of the broader development around Sheshan, an area that has seen significant growth as a recreational and resort destination within reach of central Shanghai.

The facility includes practice areas and clubhouse amenities designed to accommodate both member play and tournament operations.
