BANDON DUNES GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Bandon, OR, USA
Designed by Ben Crenshaw, Bill Coore

Sheep Ranch at Bandon Dunes, the last course to open at the resort, is a testament to minimalist design on a site steeped in local legend. Perched along Five Mile Point, the course eschews traditional routing in favor of meandering paths across wind-swept coastal bluffs, offering panoramic ocean vistas from nearly every angle. Play is dictated by the capricious Pacific winds and firm fescue fairways, favoring creative shot-making and adaptability over brute force.
Architects Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, known for their naturalistic approach, fashioned the course with just thirteen greens—nine of which are double greens. The routing promotes strategic play, with golfers often presented with multiple routes to the hole. The course embodies the free-spirited nature of its namesake, a sheep ranch that once occupied the property, a history intertwined with the original Bandon Dunes developer Phil Friedmann.
While Sheep Ranch hasn’t hosted formal championships, its allure lies in its unique golfing experience. The sense of exploration and the untamed beauty of the Oregon coastline create an unforgettable round. Its popularity derives from the course's ability to deliver an authentic links experience that is both challenging and deeply rewarding, where camaraderie on the course is embraced.
The course has quietly established itself as a bucket-list destination for golfers seeking a departure from the conventional, attracting players who prioritize experience over accolades. Its spirit is imbued with an informal ethos, mirroring the rugged, independent spirit of the Pacific Northwest. While Bandon Dunes is known for an annual pilgrimage for passionate golfers, Sheep Ranch is also known to cater to corporate partners who seek an intimate setting for high-level business discussions.
Reviews
Most exposed property on resort, great weather get ready to fire a low number and take lots of pic, rain and wind pick up you will get a true links golf experience, great hang at the fire pit make sure to grab a hot pastrami sandwich
Probably the most scenic course at Bandon. Course is pretty score-able if you play in the morning when it’s not too windy.
Wind was a challenge. No bunkers didn’t even cross my mind. Thought I would really really loved it and it was good but weaker of the Bandon courses despite lots of ocean holes. Middle sort of blended together
Surprise of the trip for me. Hear negatives about the greens but they were perfect when we were there, best greens we played. No bunkers on the course so green lights everywhere. Beautiful views and a very fun round wait for you here.
Played in 30mph winds. Views off the chart. Fun track.
I think the most underrated at Bandon. Lack of sand bunkers is odd at first, but actually makes for a super interesting and enjoyable day. The grass bunkers are not gimmes to escape from and I think the routing is just superb. Gorgeous views on every hole of the entire course and just a super enjoyable walk. So many memorable holes.
Hands down the best views in the game of golf
Easiest of the Bandon courses (when the wind is calm). No bunkers gives a cool feel. Views are unreal!
Views add at least a point.
Impressive that they fit 18 holes in here. Some of it feels a little forced, specifically the 430 yard par 5 18th, but the vistas make you forget everything else. Tough to beat the walk. The volcano 11th is a highlight that’s not on the cliffs.
