Serradella at Lakewood Shores Golf Club

Serradella occupies the northern portion of Lakewood Shores Golf Club's property in Oscoda, a small community along Lake Huron's western shore in northeastern Michigan. The course was designed by W. Bruce Matthews and Jerry Matthews, part of a regional design practice that created several courses across Michigan during the latter decades of the twentieth century. Lakewood Shores developed as a multi-course resort facility, and Serradella represents one of the layouts that helped establish the property as a golf destination in a region known more for outdoor recreation and proximity to Huron National Forest than for dense golf development.

The routing works through rolling terrain characteristic of Michigan's northern Lower Peninsula, with elevation changes and stands of pine, birch, and hardwoods framing holes. The design reflects the Matthews team's approach to creating playable resort golf that accommodates a range of skill levels while incorporating the natural topography. Fairways move through wooded corridors with strategic bunkering and water features that come into play on several holes.

Oscoda's location along the Lake Huron shoreline and near the Au Sable River gives the area a distinct northern Michigan character, with cooler temperatures extending the playing season into early autumn. Lakewood Shores operates as a semi-private facility, welcoming both members and daily-fee play, typical of golf properties in resort-oriented communities where tourism supports the local economy. The course serves golfers visiting the region for its natural amenities as well as residents of the surrounding communities.
