Second Nine at Bermuda Dunes Country Club

Bermuda Dunes Country Club's Second Nine forms part of a 27-hole facility in the Coachella Valley, designed by father-and-son architects Bob E. Baldock and Robert L. Baldock. The course opened in the early 1960s during the desert golf boom that transformed this region of Southern California into a winter golf destination. The Baldocks, who designed numerous courses throughout California and the West, created a layout that works with the flat desert terrain characteristic of the area, relying on strategic bunkering, water features, and the framing provided by palm trees and mountain backdrops rather than dramatic elevation changes.

The Second Nine can be combined with the club's other nines to create different 18-hole configurations, a flexibility that serves both member play and tournament operations. Like much of Bermuda Dunes, the routing emphasizes accuracy over length, with fairways that reward position and greens that require thoughtful approach play. The course reflects the design sensibilities of its era, when desert golf was still finding its identity between traditional parkland principles and the more naturalized desert aesthetic that would emerge in later decades.
