SEA PINES COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Hilton Head Island, SC, USA
Designed by Frank Duane

Sea Pines Country Club’s golf course, carved into the Lowcountry landscape of Hilton Head Island, represents a classic, member-focused design rather than a championship venue. This parkland-style course, originally conceived in the late 20th century, presents a player-friendly layout across relatively gentle terrain defined by mature pines and strategically placed water hazards.
While lacking the historical pedigree of some of its island neighbors, Sea Pines Country Club has seen thoughtful updates to enhance playability and aesthetics for its membership. It is a course designed to be enjoyed by all skill levels, favoring strategic placement over sheer length. The course offers a fair test where clever approaches and an ability to read the subtle breaks on the greens will result in low scores.
The heart of Sea Pines Country Club, however, lies not solely on the course, but within its vibrant community of golfers. Members enjoy a calendar filled with competitive and social events, fostering a convivial atmosphere that extends beyond the 18th green. It's a place where a casual round with friends is as valued as the scorecard, and where the post-round camaraderie, often fueled by the club's renowned seafood buffet, is as integral to the experience as the golf itself.
Reviews
We played here with a big group for a wedding weekend, and it ended up being a really fun experience. The staff was super friendly right from the start, and the overall vibe of the place felt relaxed but still private club quality. We had a little trouble at first finding our way around — the locker rooms and bar area aren’t the most obvious — but once we got settled, everything ran smoothly. The practice facilities are conveniently right next to the first tee, which I always appreciate. The setup there is great, and the first tee actually shares space with the edge of the putting green, which I thought was such a cool touch. The course itself was in great shape — perfectly maintained fairways, smooth greens, and a beautiful Lowcountry setting with lagoons and marshland coming into play throughout the round. It’s a shorter course overall with a lot of doglegs and positional tee shots, which doesn’t exactly fit my game, but it’s still really enjoyable if you like strategic golf. Tight fairways and small greens make accuracy a must, and it definitely rewards patience over power. Hole 5 really stood out to me. It’s the number one handicap and for good reason — a lagoon runs all along the left side, and the green is well-protected with bunkers that make you commit to your shot. The finishing hole, 18, is another beauty. It runs alongside the marsh with the lagoon left, creating a great visual and a perfect way to close out the round. Overall, I really enjoyed Sea Pines Country Club. It’s scenic, well-maintained, and has that classic Hilton Head charm. I’d definitely play it again if I had the chance — especially now that I know my way around a bit better.
