SCARSDALE GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Hartsdale, NY, USA
Designed by A .W. Tillinghast
Scarsdale Golf Club sits in Hartsdale, a village within the town of Greenburgh in Westchester County, just north of New York City. The course was designed by A.W. Tillinghast, one of the Golden Age's most prolific architects, whose portfolio includes Winged Foot, Baltusrol, and Bethpage Black. Tillinghast's work in the 1920s typically featured strategic bunkering, rolling terrain, and greens with subtle contours that reward precise approach play.
The course occupies rolling Westchester terrain characteristic of the region's suburban golf landscape. Tillinghast routed the layout to take advantage of natural elevation changes and wooded corridors, creating a parkland setting that has matured over the decades. The design reflects his attention to shot values and his preference for holes that offer multiple routes of play depending on skill level and conditions.
Scarsdale Golf Club operates as a private membership club serving the northern Westchester community. The club maintains the traditional character of a member-focused facility with an emphasis on golf and social activities typical of established suburban clubs in the New York metropolitan area. Like many Tillinghast courses in the region, Scarsdale has likely undergone modifications over the years to accommodate modern maintenance practices and playing preferences, though the fundamental routing and design principles remain rooted in the architect's original work. The course provides members with a walkable layout and the strategic interest characteristic of Tillinghast's approach to golf course architecture.
