HILL VALLEY GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB
🏴 Whitchurch, Shropshire, England
Designed by Peter Alliss
Hill Valley Golf & Country Club's Sapphire course occupies gently rolling farmland in the Shropshire countryside near Whitchurch, close to the Welsh border. Peter Alliss, the renowned broadcaster and course designer, laid out this parkland course as part of a multi-course facility that developed from the late 1990s onward. The routing takes advantage of natural elevation changes across former agricultural land, with mature hedgerows and specimen trees providing definition between holes.
The course presents a traditional parkland test with tree-lined fairways and strategically placed water hazards that come into play on several holes. Bunkers guard greens and frame landing areas in the Alliss style, which typically emphasizes playability for members while maintaining challenge from the back tees. The Shropshire landscape provides a pastoral setting, with views across open countryside characteristic of this part of the English Midlands.
Hill Valley operates as a members' club with visitor access, offering multiple courses on the property. The Sapphire serves as one of the facility's primary layouts, complementing other courses on site. The club provides standard country club amenities including dining and practice facilities, catering to golfers from the surrounding region including Shropshire, Cheshire, and North Wales.
