Santa Ponsa I at Golf Santa Ponsa

Santa Ponsa I occupies a hillside setting on Mallorca's southwest coast, approximately twenty kilometers from Palma. Designed by Folco Nardi and Pepe Gancedo and opened in 1977, the course was among the earliest championship layouts developed in the Balearic Islands during the region's expansion as a Mediterranean golf destination. The routing works through rolling terrain characterized by mature pine forests, with elevation changes that provide views across the surrounding landscape toward the sea.

The design incorporates the natural topography, with fairways that move through corridors of Aleppo pines and Mediterranean vegetation. Doglegs and strategic bunkering require thoughtful course management, particularly on holes where the terrain slopes significantly. Water features appear on several holes, adding variety to the challenge. The layout measures over 6,500 meters from the back tees and has hosted professional tournaments on the European Tour's developmental circuits, establishing its credentials as a competitive test.

Golf Santa Ponsa operates three courses on the property, with Santa Ponsa I serving as the original and most established of the trio. The club caters to both resort visitors and local members, reflecting Mallorca's dual identity as a holiday destination and year-round residential community. The Mediterranean climate allows for play throughout most of the year, with the course maintaining its appeal to northern European golfers seeking winter golf options. The facility includes practice areas and clubhouse amenities typical of a mature resort operation.
