SANDPINES GOLF LINKS
🇺🇸 Florence, OR, USA
Designed by Rees Jones

Sandpines Golf Links occupies a distinctive coastal site near Florence on Oregon's central coast, where the course sits amid sand dunes and shore pine forests characteristic of the region. Rees Jones designed the layout in the mid-1990s, creating a links-style course that takes advantage of the natural duneland terrain. The property lies inland from the Pacific Ocean but retains the windswept, sandy character associated with seaside golf.
The routing moves through varied topography, with holes playing over and around dunes, through corridors of shore pines, and across open sandy areas. Jones incorporated the natural contours into greens and fairways, and the design emphasizes ground game options alongside aerial approaches. Wind is a regular factor, influencing club selection and strategy throughout the round. The course features wide fairways in places but demands accuracy where dune ridges and native vegetation frame landing areas.
Sandpines serves as a public facility, providing links-style golf in a region of Oregon known more for forested parkland courses than true dunescape layouts. The setting offers views of coastal forests and distant ridgelines, and the sandy soil provides firm conditions that contrast with the softer surfaces common in the Pacific Northwest. The course has developed a reputation among Oregon golfers as one of the state's more distinctive designs, offering a playing experience that differs markedly from the tree-lined courses found in the Willamette Valley and Portland area.
Reviews
New owners give this Oregon classic a hopeful future. Golf Digest best new public/ resort course in 1991 or 92. Fell on hard times conditioning suffered. Looks to be turning a corner. I look forward to watching the progress and raising my rating. Fun layout drains well good course to play in the winter. If you like Reese courses you will like Sandpines. Finishing 3 holes are lots of fun and especially tough when wind blows.
