SAND HILLS GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Mullen, NE, USA
Designed by Ben Crenshaw, Bill Coore

Sand Hills Golf Club isn't just built on the Nebraska Sandhills, it's inextricably bound to them; a testament to minimalist design where the land dictates the game. Built in the Golden Age mold, the course stretches across a vast, rolling landscape punctuated by native grasses and dramatic undulations, presenting a raw, unadulterated golfing experience. The generous fairways belie the challenge, as cunningly placed bunkers and subtle green complexes punish the errant shot. Think wide-open vistas, but with strategic nuances.
Designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, Sand Hills emerged in 1995 as an almost accidental masterpiece, a place where architecture took a backseat to discovery. The story goes that the duo meticulously plotted the routing, unearthing the course rather than imposing upon the land. The result is a layout that feels both natural and demanding, a true test of shot-making and course management.
Nestled in a remote corner of Nebraska, Sand Hills fosters a membership as unpretentious as the landscape. While it does not court the championship spotlight, its stature resonates within the discerning golf world. It's a haven for those who value the purity of the game, where the emphasis lies on camaraderie and the sheer joy of walking a remarkable piece of ground.
Reviews
One of the most significant and inspirational courses in American golf and it meets the moment. The scale and flow is spectacular with great balance and huge fun. It’s agronomically perfect and only drawback is the necessity for carts and they are gas carts to boot. A journey that is totally worth it.
If I could, I’d buy a place in Mullen and never leave. This place is heaven on earth.
