CLUB CAMPESTRE SAN JOSE
🇲🇽 San Jose del Cabo, Baja California Sur, MX
Designed by Jack Nicklaus

Club Campestre San Jose occupies a hillside site in the foothills above San Jose del Cabo, positioned inland from the resort corridor that stretches toward Cabo San Lucas. Designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened in the mid-1990s, the course was among the earlier Nicklaus layouts in the Los Cabos region, predating the wave of oceanfront resort courses that would later define the area's golf reputation. The routing takes advantage of natural elevation changes, with holes moving through arroyos and across ridgelines that offer views toward the Sea of Cortez in the distance.
The design reflects Nicklaus's characteristic emphasis on strategic bunkering and large, contoured greens that reward accurate approach play. The terrain dictates much of the course's character—several holes play uphill or downhill with significant grade, and the native desert vegetation frames fairways bordered by rock outcroppings and scrub. Water comes into play on a handful of holes, though the layout relies more on elevation and wind for its defense than on forced carries.
Club Campestre San Jose functions primarily as a private club serving local and expatriate members, distinguishing it from the resort-oriented facilities closer to the coast. The membership includes both Mexican nationals and foreign residents drawn to the Los Cabos area. The club maintains traditional amenities including dining facilities and social programming, and the course sees relatively light play compared to the high-traffic resort tracks in the region.
