San Donato at San Donato Golf Resort & Spa

San Donato occupies elevated terrain in the Abruzzo region near L'Aquila, roughly fifteen kilometers from the historic city center. Designed by Graig Cooke and Peter McEvoy and opened in the early 2000s, the course sits at approximately 700 meters above sea level in the Aterno River valley, with views toward the Gran Sasso massif to the east. The design emphasizes strategic variety rather than extreme length, with holes that reward accurate positioning over pure distance. Several holes play across or along natural contours, and the greens feature moderate undulation suited to the site's topography. Water comes into play on a handful of holes, typically as lateral hazards rather than forced carries.
