Rum Pointe, carved into the sinuous shoreline of Maryland’s Assawoman Bay, is as much a Lowcountry landscape as it is a links layout, a subtle blend of architectural intent and capricious coastal winds. The course demands a creative approach; errant shots are swallowed by fescue, while well-placed drives are rewarded with favorable lies.
Designed by the prolific Dr. Michael Hurdzan, Rum Pointe capitalizes on its unique setting. Wide fairways belie the challenge; strategic bunkering and subtly contoured greens ask golfers to consider every shot. This isn't a course for the faint of heart, but rather for those who enjoy embracing the unexpected and navigating the constant interplay of land and sea breeze.
While not a venue steeped in major championship lore, Rum Pointe cultivates its own fervent following among local golfers and vacationers drawn to the area’s relaxed pace. It's a place where a friendly wager is as common as a dropped shot, and the post-round camaraderie on the clubhouse patio is as cherished as a well-struck iron. The club is known for its welcoming atmosphere and casual dining with seafood dishes a particular highlight.
Reviews
Super fun course tucked right off of the chesapeake bay. Always windy and makes you feel like you’re playing in the open at Pebble Beach. I’ve heard it been called the “Pebble Beach of the East Coast”.
Could be better if it wasn’t so over played. The tee boxes, fairways, and greens are ravaged by too many players going through before the course can recover. And the staff/starter brags about how many people come through in a day. I guess that’s why it was the longest 18 holes I’ve ever played.
