Ruffled Feathers, a defiant echo of Scottish links transported to the rolling Illinois landscape of Lemont, presents a strategic challenge far removed from the region’s typical parkland fare. Pete Dye, the master of visual intimidation and cunning design, crafted this modern marvel, a testament to his belief that golf should be equal parts artistry and aggravation. The course, while generous off the tee on several holes, quickly tightens its grip with strategically placed bunkers and undulating green complexes that demand a deft touch and keen understanding of angles. Faders find subtle advantages here, particularly on the back nine, where Dye's characteristic doglegs and deceptive sightlines come into play.
Unlike many courses that focus on tradition, Ruffled Feathers embraces a more contemporary atmosphere. The club has developed a reputation amongst Chicago golfers as having a fun social environment, offering members a blend of competitive golf and spirited camaraderie. This isn't a place steeped in rigid formality, but rather a haven for those who appreciate a challenging layout paired with an unpretentious, welcoming vibe.
While not a regular stop on the professional tour, Ruffled Feathers has played host to the Illinois Open. The club, however, is known regionally for the passionate competition and high level of play displayed during its member events. Many members hail from nearby neighborhoods that hug the Des Plaines River.
Reviews
Such a shame… Arcis golf ruining a Pete Dye design. Really a great layout, tests aspects of your game. But that’s where the good ends and is the only reason it gets the score it does. Course is a free for all, no management bunkers are quite honestly the worst I’ve seen. GEESE EVERYWHERE. The course is simply dying and Arcis sits idly by. So much potential and the clubhouse building is gorgeous but I cannot in good faith recommend. HS kids smoking pot and skipping holes driving next to greens. Sad what has been allowed to occur here. Spend your money elsewhere
Great layout, terrible staff, awful shape. I’ve played it a lot. Staff is always in a bad mood and the course is always in awful shape
This course gets serious play. Conditions were not great for the price.
Bunkers unplayable. Pete dye rolling over in his grave at this one
