ROYAL MOUGINS GOLF & RESORT
🇫🇷 Mougins, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, FR
Designed by Robert von Hagge
Royal Mougins occupies a hillside site in the Alpes-Maritimes, a few kilometers inland from Cannes on the French Riviera. Robert von Hagge designed the course in the early 1990s, routing eighteen holes across terrain that rises and falls through Mediterranean woodland dominated by umbrella pines, olive trees, and cork oaks. The layout takes advantage of the natural elevation changes, with several holes playing uphill or downhill and offering views toward the surrounding hills and, on clear days, glimpses of the coast.
Von Hagge's design incorporates water features on multiple holes, including lakes and streams that come into play on approach shots and around greens. The course measures over 6,400 meters from the back tees and presents a mixture of strategic challenges: elevated greens that require precise distance control, fairways that bend around natural contours, and bunkering that frames landing areas and green complexes. The property's mature trees create defined corridors on many holes, rewarding accuracy off the tee.
The club operates as a resort facility and welcomes visiting golfers throughout the year. The Mediterranean climate allows for nearly year-round play, though summer temperatures can be high. Royal Mougins has hosted professional events on the European developmental tours and remains one of the better-known courses in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, serving both local members and international visitors drawn to the Riviera.
