Royal Isabela occupies a dramatic clifftop site on Puerto Rico's northwest coast near the town of Isabela. Designer David Pfaff routed the course along limestone bluffs that rise sharply above the Atlantic Ocean, creating a layout where nearly every hole offers views of the water and the surrounding coastal landscape. The property's natural topography, with its elevation changes and proximity to the ocean, shapes the character of play throughout.

The course measures approximately 7,000 yards from the back tees and features wide fairways that contrast with the rugged terrain beyond the playing corridors. Several holes run directly along the cliff edge, where the Caribbean trade winds become a significant factor in club selection and shot strategy. The routing takes advantage of the site's natural contours, with holes moving through different elevations and orientations to the prevailing wind.

Royal Isabela opened in 2012 as part of a residential development, though it operates primarily as a resort amenity with limited public access. The facility emphasizes a low-key, nature-focused experience rather than traditional country club formality. The remote location on Puerto Rico's less-developed northwestern coast contributes to a sense of seclusion, with the surrounding area characterized by agricultural land and small coastal communities rather than dense tourism infrastructure.

The course sustained damage during Hurricane Maria in 2017 and underwent restoration work in the subsequent years. It has attracted attention in golf publications for its oceanfront setting and the visual drama of its clifftop holes.
