Royal Isabela occupies dramatic clifftop terrain along Puerto Rico's northwest coast near the town of Isabela, where the Atlantic Ocean meets rugged limestone bluffs. Designed by David Pfaff and opened in 2011, the course sits on land that was once part of a coconut plantation. The property's elevation changes and oceanfront exposure create a distinctive setting among Caribbean golf courses, with several holes playing directly along the cliff edge and others moving through interior valleys and ridgelines.

The routing takes advantage of the natural topography, with holes positioned to maximize ocean views while working with the site's considerable elevation changes. The course plays through a mix of exposed coastal terrain and more sheltered inland areas, creating variety in both playing conditions and visual character. Several holes feature carries over ravines or approach shots to greens set against the ocean backdrop. The clifftop holes along the northern edge of the property are particularly memorable for their proximity to the water and exposure to prevailing trade winds.

Royal Isabela operates as a private club with limited public access through resort guests and special arrangements. The facility emphasizes its natural setting and relatively remote location on the island's less-developed northwest coast. The alternate tees referenced in the course name allow for different playing lengths and angles, accommodating various skill levels while maintaining the essential character of Pfaff's design across the dramatic coastal landscape.
