Royal Hua Hin Golf Course

Royal Hua Hin Golf Course, established in 1924, holds the distinction of being Thailand's first standardized golf course and remains one of the country's most historically significant layouts. The course was designed by A. O. Robins, a Scottish railway engineer working for the State Railway of Thailand, who routed the holes across relatively flat terrain near the Gulf of Thailand. The development of the course coincided with the construction of the royal summer palace in Hua Hin, reflecting the town's emergence as a resort destination for Bangkok's elite during the early 20th century. The layout features mature trees that have grown to define playing corridors and frame strategic decisions on many holes. The course incorporates several water hazards and bunkers positioned to challenge approach shots, while the coastal location subjects play to prevailing winds that can significantly affect club selection. The topography remains largely level, characteristic of the coastal plain, though Robins utilized the available land to create variety in hole lengths and angles.
