Royal at Royal Country Club

Royal Country Club in Touwu, Miaoli County, sits in the foothills of northwestern Taiwan, approximately an hour's drive from Taipei. Robert Trent Jones, Jr. designed the course, bringing his characteristic strategic design philosophy to the mountainous terrain of this region. The layout takes advantage of significant elevation changes and natural contours, typical of Jones's work in Asia during the expansion of golf across the continent in the late twentieth century.

The routing moves through forested hillsides and offers views across the surrounding valleys and peaks of Miaoli's landscape. Jones's design approach here emphasizes multiple tee positions and strategic options from the fairway, allowing the course to accommodate different skill levels while rewarding thoughtful play. The greens feature the undulation and contouring associated with Jones's portfolio, and water hazards appear on several holes, integrated into the natural drainage patterns of the property.
