Rose Creek at Rose Creek Golf Course

Rose Creek Golf Course opened in Fargo in 1991, designed by Dick Phelps, a Minnesota-based architect known for his work throughout the upper Midwest. The course occupies land along the Red River Valley, where the flat to gently rolling terrain typical of eastern North Dakota shapes the routing and playing character. Phelps worked with the natural drainage patterns and modest elevation changes to create a layout that incorporates water features and strategic bunkering across its eighteen holes.

The course serves as a public facility for the Fargo-Moorhead metropolitan area, providing accessible daily-fee golf in a region where the playing season runs from late spring through early fall. The design reflects practical considerations for northern prairie golf: wide fairways accommodate varied skill levels, while water hazards—including Rose Creek itself—come into play on several holes. Tree plantings have matured since opening, adding definition to holes and providing windbreaks in an otherwise exposed landscape.
