SUNCADIA RESORT
🇺🇸 Cle Elum, WA, USA
Designed by Jacobsen Hardy
Rope Rider is the second of two championship courses at Suncadia Resort in Cle Elum, Washington, designed by the firm Jacobsen Hardy and opened in 2009. The course takes its name from the logging industry heritage of the Cascade Mountain region, where rope riders once guided logs down steep terrain. Set in the eastern foothills of the Cascades at approximately 2,200 feet elevation, the layout occupies more dramatic topography than its resort companion, Prospector, with significant elevation changes and forested corridors carved through stands of ponderosa pine and Douglas fir.
The routing makes extensive use of the natural terrain, with holes that climb and descend through the property's varied landscape. Several holes play along ridgelines offering views toward the Cascade peaks, while others drop into valleys where seasonal creeks and native grasses come into play. The design incorporates substantial earthwork to create playable corridors through the mountainous setting, with fairways that often cant and undulate. Bunkering is strategic rather than abundant, and greens feature moderate contour appropriate to the mountain environment.
As a resort course, Rope Rider accommodates a range of skill levels through multiple tee options, though the terrain and length from the back tees present a legitimate test. The course operates seasonally, typically from late spring through autumn, and serves guests of the Suncadia Resort development along with outside daily-fee play. The setting provides a distinct contrast to the more open, meadow-style character of Prospector, offering variety within the resort's golf program.
