ROCKY GAP LODGE & GOLF RESORT
🇺🇸 Flintstone, MD, USA
Designed by Jack Nicklaus

Rocky Gap Lodge sits within Rocky Gap State Park in the Allegheny Mountains of western Maryland, approximately ten miles east of Cumberland. Jack Nicklaus designed the course in the mid-1990s as the centerpiece of a resort property that includes a lodge overlooking Lake Habeeb. The layout takes advantage of the natural Appalachian terrain, with significant elevation changes and mountain views that distinguish it from the flatter courses typical of Maryland's coastal regions.
The routing moves through forested corridors and along ridgelines, with several holes playing across ravines or down into valleys. Water comes into play on multiple holes, including those that skirt the lake's edge. The design incorporates Nicklaus's characteristic strategic bunkering and large, contoured greens that reward accurate approach shots. The par-72 layout stretches over 7,000 yards from the back tees, though multiple tee boxes accommodate different skill levels.
Rocky Gap has hosted professional events on the PGA Tour's secondary circuits. The course served as a venue for what was known as the Military Tribute at The Greenbrier when that event temporarily relocated in 2019, bringing PGA Tour competition to Maryland. The resort setting combines golf with hiking trails and lake recreation within the state park, making it a destination for both serious golfers and families seeking mountain recreation in the Mid-Atlantic region.
