COUNTRY CLUB OF THE ROCKIES
🇺🇸 Edwards, CO, USA
Designed by Jack Nicklaus

The Country Club of the Rockies sits in Edwards, Colorado, in the Vail Valley at approximately 7,500 feet elevation. Jack Nicklaus designed the course, which opened in the late 1990s as part of a private residential community. The layout occupies terrain characteristic of the central Colorado Rockies, with the course routed through high-altitude terrain that includes elevation changes, native grasses, and views of the surrounding mountain ranges. The design reflects Nicklaus's approach to mountain golf during this period, incorporating the natural topography into the playing corridors.
The course measures over 7,000 yards from the back tees, though altitude significantly affects ball flight and distance at this elevation. Players contend with forced carries, strategic bunkering, and greens that take advantage of the property's natural contours. Water features appear on several holes, and the routing moves through stands of evergreens and open meadow areas. The conditioning and playability can vary with the shorter mountain growing season, typically running from late spring through early fall.
The club operates as a private facility serving the Edwards and Vail Valley communities. Membership includes access to other amenities beyond golf, typical of mountain resort-area clubs. The course serves primarily as a members' club rather than a tournament venue, focusing on recreational play in a high-altitude mountain setting. The Nicklaus design places it among several notable courses in the Vail Valley region that cater to the area's seasonal and year-round residents.
Reviews
Solid Nicklaus design just outside of Vail. Club and course both first class, with gorgeous mountain views and some awesome signature holes along the Eagle River. Some forgettable holes mixed in, but this is definitely a great place to spend the day in Colorado.
