RIVER POINTE GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Richmond, TX, USA
Designed by Carlton Gipson
River Pointe Golf Club sits in Richmond, Texas, approximately thirty miles southwest of Houston in Fort Bend County. Designed by Carlton Gipson and opened in the late 1990s, the course occupies land along the Brazos River bottomlands, where the flat coastal prairie meets occasional stands of mature hardwoods and natural water features. Gipson, a Texas-based architect with numerous courses throughout the state, worked with the property's existing topography to create a layout that incorporates the region's characteristic live oaks and pecans into the playing corridors.
The routing takes advantage of the site's modest elevation changes and natural drainage patterns. Several holes play near or alongside creeks and ponds that come into play on approach shots, while others move through more open terrain where wind becomes a factor. The layout includes strategic bunkering and water hazards positioned to challenge both tee shots and approaches, with green complexes that vary in size and contouring to reward accurate iron play.
River Pointe serves the Richmond area as a daily-fee facility, drawing golfers from the western Houston suburbs and Fort Bend County communities. The course provides a straightforward test of golf in a region where flat terrain is the norm, and Gipson's design works within those constraints to create variety through hole length, hazard placement, and green design. The club includes practice facilities and a clubhouse that accommodates both casual rounds and local tournament play.
