RICHMOND COUNTY COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Staten Island, NY, USA
Designed by Robert White

Richmond County Country Club occupies a hillside site on Staten Island with views across the Narrows toward Brooklyn and the Verrazzano Bridge. Robert White, a Scottish professional and early American golf course architect, designed the course in the 1890s during golf's first wave of expansion in the New York metropolitan area. The club itself dates to 1888, making it one of the oldest continuously operating golf clubs in the United States. White's routing takes advantage of the natural elevation changes across the property, creating a layout that moves through varied terrain characteristic of Staten Island's glacially formed topography.
The course reflects the design principles of early American golf, with holes that follow the land's contours rather than impose dramatic earthmoving. Players encounter uphill and downhill shots throughout the round, and the elevation provides natural strategic interest and occasional long views of New York Harbor. The layout remains relatively compact by modern standards, fitting within the constraints of its established suburban setting, yet the terrain creates variety in shot requirements and club selection.
Richmond County has maintained its place in the New York golf community for well over a century, serving as a traditional private club with a membership drawn largely from Staten Island and the surrounding boroughs. The club has hosted regional amateur competitions and maintains the character of an established metropolitan course where golf history and ongoing play coexist within the same routing that has served members across multiple generations.
Reviews
RCCC is the only private club on Staten Island. Conditions were impeccable, greens were fast. Layout is a bit crammed as the course doesn’t have a ton of land. Range is subpar, it’s 150 max. Some really hilly holes and an old school layout, just a few silly ones forced to fit in the small property.
