THE GRANDE DUNES RESORT CLUB
🇺🇸 Myrtle Beach, SC, USA
Designed by Roger Rulewich

The Grande Dunes Resort Club occupies a distinctive setting along the Intracoastal Waterway in Myrtle Beach, where Roger Rulewich designed a course that navigates between coastal marshland and upland terrain. Rulewich, a longtime associate of Robert Trent Jones Sr. and later Robert Trent Jones Jr., brought his experience with strategic design and environmental integration to this property, which opened in 2001. The routing takes advantage of elevation changes uncommon in the Myrtle Beach area, with several holes playing across or alongside tidal marshes that define much of the course's character.
The layout moves through three distinct environments: the opening holes play through residential corridors with moderate elevation, the middle stretch engages the marsh edges with forced carries and lateral hazards, and the closing holes return to higher ground with views across the Waterway. The par-three thirteenth hole plays over wetlands to a green framed by marsh grasses, while the finishing stretch includes a demanding par-four eighteenth that requires precision off the tee and an approach to a green protected by water.
The course serves as the centerpiece of a larger resort and residential community, with the clubhouse positioned to overlook both the eighteenth green and the Intracoastal Waterway beyond. The property reflects the evolution of Myrtle Beach golf from purely resort play to more upscale residential golf communities that emerged in the area during the late 1990s and early 2000s.
