RED TAIL GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Devens, MA, USA
Designed by Brian Silva
Red Tail Golf Club, carved into the landscape of Devens, Massachusetts, emerged from the vision of Brian Silva during golf's late-century surge. Built on the former Fort Devens military base, the course repurposes the rolling terrain into a challenging and visually engaging layout. Silva's design favors a strategic approach, rewarding thoughtful play over brute power.
The course occupies land previously utilized as an active airfield, which adds to the feeling of openness and space, however tree-lined fairways and subtle elevation changes come into play. Favoring those who work the ball from right to left, the course meanders through mature pines and hardwoods creating a serene yet demanding experience. The greens, known for their subtle breaks and true roll, place a premium on precision and feel.
While Red Tail hasn't hosted major championships, it remains a highly regarded course within the region, known for its challenging layout and commitment to environmental stewardship. Red Tail features a diverse membership, drawn from across the surrounding communities. The club maintains a strong sense of community, a place to gather after a round and swap stories.
Reviews
Good course, pricing generally a bit steep, cool layout
One of the pricier tee times in the area (#StopDynamicPricing 😂) but they make it worth it with good food and practice facility included w/rate. Some really unique holes with large waste areas. Few intimidating par 3’s. 18 is a great test to end your round.
