THE GEORGIA CLUB
🇺🇸 Statham, GA, USA
Designed by Denis Griffiths
Red/Black at The Georgia Club represents Athens' understated challenge, a haven for those who favor classic course architecture over modern bomb-and-gouge designs. Built during the late 20th century, this layout winds through the rolling, wooded terrain north of Athens, embodying a distinctly Georgian parkland character. Think towering pines framing generous fairways, demanding accuracy on approaches to subtly contoured greens.
Originally designed by Denis Griffiths, who routed the course to favor a natural look, Red/Black presents a balanced test. While the fairways are relatively forgiving, the course is long and the greens are a formidable challenge for the flat stick. The course's layout and strategic bunkering reward thoughtful shot placement more than raw power, making it a cerebral experience for the seasoned golfer.
Red/Black, more so than the club's other track, is known to host the club's member-guests, further underscoring the more relaxed, everyday vibe and focus on member enjoyment. It's a place where the echoes of SEC football banter mingle with the satisfying thwack of a well-struck drive, a testament to its home in the heart of Bulldog country.
