THORNBERRY CREEK AT ONEIDA - IROQUOIS 9-HOLE COURSE
🇺🇸 Oneida, WI, USA
Designed by Rick Jacobson
The Iroquois 9-Hole Course at Thornberry Creek at Oneida is part of the larger Thornberry Creek facility in Oneida, Wisconsin, designed by Rick Jacobson. The property sits on land owned by the Oneida Nation and operates as a public facility that opened in the early 2000s. Jacobson, a Wisconsin-based architect known for his work throughout the upper Midwest, designed the complex to include multiple nine-hole loops that can be combined in various configurations, with the Iroquois nine serving as one of these routing options alongside the Legends nine.
The course occupies relatively flat to gently rolling terrain characteristic of northeastern Wisconsin, with the landscape shaped by glacial activity that left behind sandy soils favorable for golf course construction. The routing incorporates natural wetland areas and creek corridors that provide both strategic interest and environmental habitat. Native grasses and restored prairie areas frame many holes, giving the course a naturalized appearance that reflects the region's pre-settlement character.
Thornberry Creek gained broader recognition when it hosted the Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic from 2017 through 2019, bringing professional tournament golf to the Green Bay area. The facility serves both daily-fee golfers and the local community, with the Oneida Nation's ownership connecting the course to the tribe's broader economic development initiatives in the region. The multiple-nine format allows for flexible play options and helps accommodate high volumes of golfers during Wisconsin's compressed golf season.
