RAYMOND MEMORIAL GOLF COURSE
🇺🇸 Columbus, OH, USA
Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr.
Raymond Memorial, a classic Columbus public course, bears the enduring mark of Jack Kidwell's design, a testament to accessible golf in the heart of Ohio. Set within the rolling parkland of the Trabue Road area, the course presents a straightforward, honest test; its mature trees framing generous fairways that invite a confident swing but punish wayward shots with thick rough. While not known for trickery, its subtle doglegs and strategically placed bunkers demand thoughtful club selection.
Kidwell's original layout, crafted during the mid-century golf boom, has seen limited alterations over the decades, preserving its original character and playability. The greens, typically moderate in size and contour, reward precise approach play. Raymond Memorial isn't a course defined by drama or spectacle, but by its consistent, enjoyable experience for golfers of all abilities.
The club has a friendly, unpretentious atmosphere, favoring a quick pace of play and a welcoming environment for new golfers, a place where a sense of community thrives. After a round, many gather for a cold beverage, sharing stories of triumphs and near misses on the course.
Reviews
Not much to say here. A standard “don’t know any better” muni on a nothing piece of land. Has quirks but all of them seem to hurt the experience rather than help. Conditions sub par. Layout extremely underwhelming. Always a slow round and expect a lot of hacks out there. One of many lifeless public courses that populate a sub par public golf city that is Columbus…
An absolute dog track with some of the funniest features. Massive greens that roll like Velcro and on par threes they have multiple greens for some reason
This course absolutely stinks. I would not recommend this course to my worst enemy. The holes are repetitive, the pace of play stinks, and the driving range has like 4 total spots. I do not think this is in the true spirit of what a muni should be and I think they should try to improve it because the residents of Columbus deserve it.
