RAVISLOE COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Homewood, IL, USA
Designed by Theodore J. Moreau

Ravisloe Country Club, south of Chicago in Lansing, is steeped in a tradition as rich as the prairie soil on which it sits, a testament to the enduring appeal of classic American golf. The course, laid out in the Golden Age of golf architecture, meanders through rolling, tree-lined terrain. Originally crafted by Donald Ross, the layout presents a strategic challenge; less about brute force and more about thoughtful shot placement to navigate the mature hardwoods and subtle undulations that defend the greens. The course favors those who can work the ball, rewarding creativity and precision over sheer power.
The membership at Ravisloe has long reflected the community it serves: a blend of passionate golfers and families drawn to the club's welcoming atmosphere. Ravisloe has a deep Jewish history and heritage. As a country club, it was originally founded in 1901 by members of Chicago’s Standard Club, the city's oldest Jewish club. As a result, it became a sanctuary for the growing Jewish population in the Chicago area who at the time found it increasingly difficult to find country clubs that were inclusive.
While not a regular host to major professional events, Ravisloe has held numerous regional and state championships, further solidifying its place as a respected test of golf in the Midwest. Its charm lies in its understated elegance, a place where golf is enjoyed in its purest form, away from the spotlight. In its second century, Ravisloe continues to provide a haven for those who appreciate the game's traditions and the camaraderie it fosters, all whilst being nestled in a beautiful natural sanctuary.
Reviews
Tight, overhyped. If not local to it can totally skip. Donald Ross design / influence which is cool. Neat clubhouse, elements of history but won’t be going back unless for an outing.
This course gets a lot of play so it’s usually in rough shape but it’s a great Ross track with many of his original bunkering and greens intact. A good public course in Chicago
I expected good things based on Donald Ross being heavily involved for 5 years in the 20s, but man did this place impress. Possibly the best set of par 3s I have ever seen from Mr Ross. #4(3rd photo) is a top 5 hole from Donald
Old school Ross you could play every day. Get the PB&J (grape on wheat) at the turn.
Great old school course that's super playable and fun. Pace can be brutal at times but if you're one of the first groups off you can play fast and it's real enjoyable.
Simply cannot beat a Donald Ross original for under $100. Practice area is also world-class for a public club.
Played last year don’t remember a ton. Old school course, fun track. As far as public courses go it’s a really good one.
