POLE CREEK GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Tabernash, CO, USA
Designed by Denis Griffiths

The Ranch course at Pole Creek Golf Club sits in the Fraser Valley near Tabernash, Colorado, at an elevation above 8,600 feet. Designed by Denis Griffiths and opened in the late 1980s, it represents one of the earlier mountain golf developments in this part of the Colorado Rockies. The course occupies meadowland terrain with views of the Continental Divide and the surrounding peaks of Grand County.
Griffiths routed the layout across relatively open ranchland, incorporating natural elevation changes and the high-altitude environment into the design. The course features wide fairways that accommodate the increased carry distances at elevation, though the thin air also affects club selection and ball flight in ways unfamiliar to sea-level golfers. Native grasses, stands of pine and aspen, and occasional water features define the playing corridors.
Pole Creek operates as a public facility serving both destination golfers visiting the Winter Park area and regional players from the Front Range. The Ranch course is paired with a second nine-hole layout on the property, offering variety for multi-day visitors. Conditions and playability can vary significantly with the short mountain season, which typically runs from late spring through early fall depending on snowmelt and weather patterns.
The setting emphasizes the natural mountain landscape rather than resort-style amenities, with the golf experience shaped by altitude, weather exposure, and the dramatic backdrop of high-country Colorado.
