RAMS HILL COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Borrego Springs, CA, USA
Designed by Ted Robinson Sr., Tom Fazio
Rams Hill, a testament to audacity amidst the stark beauty of Borrego Springs, unfolds as a surprising oasis. Designed by Tom Fazio and opened in 2007, it's a modern interpretation of desert golf; not a subtle negotiation with the landscape, but a full-throated declaration of it. The course favors a power game, rewarding bold drives across the generous fairways and demanding creative approaches to multi-tiered greens. Don't be lulled by the expansive vistas – strategically placed bunkers and the ever-present desert scrub stand ready to punish the errant shot.
While Rams Hill hasn't hosted major championships, its reputation is built on the experience it provides. Its initial iteration struggled to take hold and was shuttered for a few years before reopening under new ownership. It is now a testament to the resilience of both its design and the vision of those who believed in its potential. The club attracts a membership drawn to its challenge and the stunning, almost otherworldly isolation of its location.
Off the course, Rams Hill is known for its commitment to fine dining experiences, with a focus on locally sourced ingredients. The clubhouse, a striking architectural statement in its own right, is a place of community, forging an environment where members enjoy sharing stories and experiences after a round. It also attracts members for special events, like weddings and parties, with world class accomodations.
While it doesn't bask in the spotlight of televised events, Rams Hill offers an authentic and unforgettable golfing escape. Its allure lies not just in the course itself, but in the singular combination of world-class golf, refined amenities, and the raw, untamed beauty of the California desert.
Reviews
Make the drive! Worth every minute of it
Layout is great Condition pretty good, dry in some spots, while some parts were soaked
Conditions and leave a bit to be desired. But awesome place. Absolutely enchanting drive from LA/OC
Played 2 rounds in the annual RAMATEUR net golf event. Fastest greens in the West. Friendly staff and a great annual tournament. Slow play 6 hour rounds but may not be the norm.
A bit of a drive from San Diego, but one of my favorite courses in the area. Reminds me a lot of We-Ko-Pa
A really beautiful Fazio course that doesn’t not get enough love because of where it is located. Middle of nowhere in the desert. The property was really barebones but that also meant it felt like we had the course to ourselves! As is per usual of a Fazio course the 18th hole was a world class stunner, but I loved the 10th hole par 3 and the short 17th par 4. The front nine towards the top of the property maybe left a little to be desired but overall a really fun day. It’s worth the 1.5 hour drive from Palm Springs
Cookies, Tacos, and the best experience you can get in the middle of the desert. Must play
Terrific course, but nothing mind blowing. Conditions were good not great when I played. The best customer service and friendliness that I’ve ever experienced at a course
The hardest course I’ve ever played. It’s built in a canyon which in my opinion is just a terrible idea. The canyon creates a wind tunnel which makes some holes impossible. course is pristine & probably the nicest conditioned course I’ve ever played. Unfortunately having to hit my 205 club into a 160yd. Par 3 and still missing short is just mind boggling to me.
