HORSESHOE BAY RESORT
🇺🇸 Horseshoe Bay, TX, USA
Designed by Robert Trent Jones

Ram Rock is one of four courses at Horseshoe Bay Resort, a large golf and residential community situated along Lake LBJ in the Texas Hill Country west of Austin. Designed by Robert Trent Jones and opened in 1981, the course occupies rugged terrain characterized by significant elevation changes, exposed limestone outcroppings, and native cedar and oak vegetation typical of the region. The routing takes advantage of the dramatic topography, with holes playing across ravines and along ridgelines that offer views of the surrounding hills and lake.
Jones incorporated his signature design elements throughout the layout, including large, undulating greens protected by deep bunkers and strategic water hazards. The terrain dictates much of the challenge, as players navigate steep slopes and uneven lies while managing the elevation changes that affect club selection and shot execution. Several holes feature pronounced doglegs that follow the natural contours of the land, and the exposed rock formations that give the course its name appear throughout the property, adding both visual interest and strategic considerations.
As part of a resort complex, Ram Rock serves both resort guests and members of the Horseshoe Bay community. The course is maintained to accommodate a range of skill levels, with multiple tee boxes that allow players to adjust the length and difficulty to their abilities. The Hill Country setting provides a distinctive environment compared to traditional Texas parkland courses, with the rocky landscape and elevation creating a playing experience more reminiscent of mountain golf than the flatter terrain found elsewhere in the state.
