RAINIER GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Seattle, WA, USA
Designed by Robert Johnstone

Rainier Golf & Country Club, nestled in the hills south of Seattle, tells a story etched in the Pacific Northwest landscape since its founding in 1922. This classic parkland layout, designed by famed Northwest architect A. Vernon Macan, weaves through stands of towering evergreens and across gently rolling terrain. While not nationally prominent, it’s respected regionally for its demanding, strategic design where accuracy, not length, is the key to scoring well. Macan's design is notable for its routing, which takes full advantage of the natural contours, creating memorable and challenging holes where a well-placed fade or draw is far more rewarding than brute power.
The course offers a strategic test for golfers of all skill levels. It is defined by well-bunkered greens and strategically placed water hazards that demand careful course management. Over the years, Rainier has seen subtle refinements to its design, always careful to preserve the integrity of Macan’s original vision. The club has remained a steadfast host for local and regional amateur events, further cementing its place in the Pacific Northwest golfing community.
Beyond the golf, Rainier is renowned for its tight-knit membership. It’s a club where generations of families have gathered, fostering a legacy of tradition and camaraderie. While not boasting a particularly famous clubhouse offering, Rainier is nonetheless held in high regard for offering an authentic golf club experience to the pacific northwest.
