Rössmund Golf Resort & Lodge sits in the Namib Desert outside Swakopmund, a coastal town in western Namibia known for its German colonial architecture and proximity to dramatic desert landscapes. The course was designed by Rees Jones in collaboration with Bill Kerr and opened in the early 2000s as part of a resort development. Jones, known for his U.S. Open course renovations and desert designs, created a layout that works with the stark terrain and limited water resources characteristic of this arid region. The routing unfolds across sandy desert ground with minimal vegetation, where the natural dunes and undulating topography shape the playing corridors. Fairways are defined against expanses of sand and scrub, and the design incorporates the movement of the land rather than imposing heavily manufactured features. Wind is a consistent factor given the proximity to the Atlantic coast, and the exposed setting means conditions can shift significantly throughout a round. Rössmund serves as one of Namibia's few full-length championship courses and has hosted national amateur and professional events.
