Quinta do Vale at Quinta do Vale Golf Resort

Quinta do Vale is an 18-hole course in Castro Marim, located in the eastern Algarve near the Spanish border and the town of Vila Real de Santo António. Designed by Severiano Ballesteros and opened in 2006, the course represents one of the late Spanish champion's design projects in Portugal's southernmost region. The layout occupies relatively flat terrain characteristic of this coastal area, with the routing incorporating water features and strategic bunkering that reflect Ballesteros's playing philosophy of rewarding creativity and shot-making.

The course measures approximately 6,200 meters from the back tees and plays as a par 72. The design emphasizes positioning and course management rather than overwhelming length, with water hazards coming into play on several holes and requiring careful navigation. The property includes both the golf course and residential development, typical of resort projects in the Algarve during this period of expansion.

Castro Marim sits away from the more densely developed central Algarve corridor, offering a quieter setting near the Guadiana River estuary and protected marshlands. The area's flat topography and proximity to the coast influence playing conditions, particularly wind. Quinta do Vale serves primarily resort and visiting golfers exploring the eastern Algarve, an area less traveled than the region's more established golf destinations around Vilamoura and Quinta do Lago.
