Quarry/Lake at Joondalup Country Club

Joondalup Country Club sits in Perth's northern suburbs, approximately 25 kilometers from the city center. The property features 36 holes designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Robert Trent Jones Jr., who collaborated on the layout in the late 1980s. The facility opened in 1989 and represents one of the few Jones family designs in Australia, bringing their signature strategic style to the Western Australian landscape.

The Quarry and Lake nines form one of two 18-hole combinations available at the club. As their names suggest, these nines incorporate distinct landscape features: the Quarry routing plays through and around former sand mining excavations, creating dramatic elevation changes and natural hazards uncommon in the typically flat Perth coastal plain, while the Lake nine features water hazards that come into play on several holes. The Jones design philosophy of risk-reward options and strategic bunkering appears throughout both nines, with generous landing areas balanced by well-defended greens.

The course sits within a residential development but maintains substantial natural bushland character, with native vegetation framing many holes. The layout accommodates players of varying abilities through multiple tee positions, though the design rewards precise iron play and course management. Joondalup operates as a private member club and has hosted various state and regional amateur competitions over the years, serving as a significant championship venue in Perth's northern corridor.
