PUN HLAING GOLF ESTATE
🇲🇲 Daing Shu, Yangon, MM
Designed by Gary Player
Pun Hlaing Golf Estate sits approximately 30 kilometers northwest of central Yangon in the Hmawbi Township area, part of a larger residential and leisure development. Gary Player Design completed the course in the mid-2000s as Myanmar began opening to international investment and tourism. The layout occupies relatively flat terrain typical of the Yangon region's lowland geography, with water features and strategic bunkering providing the primary design elements across the property.
The routing incorporates multiple lakes and wetland areas that come into play on several holes, requiring carries over water and careful course management. Player's design philosophy here emphasizes strategic options from the tee and approaches that reward accuracy over pure distance. The flat topography means elevation change is minimal, so visual interest and challenge derive from the placement of hazards, the shaping of greens, and the mature trees that frame many fairways.
The estate functions as an integrated community with residential properties surrounding the golf course, following a model common in Southeast Asian golf development. The club serves both local members and visiting golfers, offering facilities that include practice areas and dining venues. As one of the more established international-standard courses in the Yangon area, Pun Hlaing has hosted corporate and amateur tournaments within Myanmar's developing golf scene, though it has not been a venue for major professional events.
