PUEBLO DE CONCHITI GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Cochiti Lake, NM, USA
Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr.
Pueblo de Cochiti Golf Club sits along the Rio Grande valley near Cochiti Lake in northern New Mexico, approximately 35 miles southwest of Santa Fe. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. and opened in the mid-1980s, the course occupies land leased from Cochiti Pueblo on terrain that blends high desert character with riverine bottomland. The layout takes advantage of natural elevation changes and arroyos typical of the region, with views extending toward the Jemez Mountains to the west and the Sangre de Cristo range to the east.
Jones routed the course through a landscape of pinyon and juniper, incorporating native grasses and desert vegetation that frame fairways against the stark beauty of the New Mexico high country. The design reflects Jones's approach to working with existing landforms rather than imposing dramatic reshaping, allowing the natural contours and washes to define strategic interest. Several holes play along or across arroyos, requiring carries over rugged terrain and rewarding accurate placement over distance.
The course operates at an elevation above 5,000 feet, where the thin air affects ball flight and the climate produces distinct playing conditions across seasons. The setting provides a quieter alternative to more heavily trafficked resort courses in the region, with a character shaped by its proximity to pueblo land and the high desert environment of north-central New Mexico.
