PRINCETON COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Princeton, NJ, USA
Designed by Bill Gordon, David Gordon

Princeton Country Club's course in Princeton, New Jersey, was designed by the father-and-son team of Bill and David Gordon. The Gordons, active in the mid-Atlantic region during the latter half of the twentieth century, created a layout that fits naturally into the rolling terrain characteristic of central New Jersey. The property's wooded character and elevation changes provide variety in hole presentation and strategic options throughout the round.
The routing takes advantage of the site's topography, with holes playing across slopes and through corridors of mature trees. Greens are typically elevated or contoured to reward accurate approach play, and bunkers are positioned to define landing areas and frame putting surfaces. Water comes into play on several holes, adding tactical considerations to club selection and shot placement.
Princeton Country Club serves a membership drawn largely from the surrounding academic and professional community. The club maintains traditions common to established private clubs in the region, with an emphasis on member golf and social activities. The course provides a straightforward test of golf that rewards course management and consistent ball-striking without relying on excessive length or artificial difficulty.
The club's location in Princeton places it within a community known for its educational institutions and historical significance in the region. The course reflects the design sensibilities of its era, offering members a familiar and playable layout suited to regular play.
Reviews
Lost a ton of balls in the woods. Green were terrible
Feel like a good term for this spot is “theocal dogtrack. The condition of the course is mid, the greens are painfully slow and usually not in good condition. Somewhat narrow but short, good for a beginner (like me) because scoring feels possible with one well placed shot. Staff is fairly nice and it’s cheap. Good spot to practice and work on your game, but the overall golf experience is mediocre. I think you get good value for it: cheap to play, fairly easy to make a tee time, decent pace of play. But yeah, it’s cheap so don’t expect a state-of-the-art experience. Gets the job done as a local muni.
