POUND RIDGE GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Pound Ridge, NY, USA
Designed by Pete Dye

Pound Ridge Golf Club stands as Pete Dye's final masterpiece, a testament to his enduring vision etched into the rugged landscape of northern Westchester County. Carved from rolling hills and dense woodlands, the modern layout presents a formidable challenge with dramatic elevation changes and meticulously sculpted fairways. The course demands strategic play, rewarding thoughtful approaches over brute force. Its expansive, undulating greens—a Dye trademark—test the mettle of even the most seasoned putters.
While Pound Ridge hasn't played host to major championships, its reputation for uncompromising difficulty has made it a favored proving ground for aspiring professionals and discerning amateurs alike. The course's dramatic visuals, particularly the par-5 13th with its elevated tee and breathtaking vista, are frequently shared amongst golf social media circles.
The Club itself fosters a distinctly unpretentious atmosphere amongst its membership. Pound Ridge, and the surrounding area has long been home to some of New York's more notable residents. In contrast to some of the more exclusive clubs in the region, Pound Ridge emphasizes a relaxed environment and a pure love of the game above all else. The Grill Room, with its panoramic views of the course, is known for its hearty fare and lively post-round conversations.
Reviews
Anyone who has played a Pete Dye track before will instantly recognize his classic touches all over this track. The incredible bunkering(with tiny bunkers that look huge from the tee), the small green par 3s, and some excellent short par 4s. The front 9 at pound ridge is one of the best opening 9 nines I’ve played on a public track. The opening stretch of 1,2, and 3 are engaging, challenging, but a ton of fun. The real star of the course is the land. The terrain weaves between ponds, large dune like hills, and dense forest at times. One hole can feel like your playing an open style meadow course while the next hole can feel like your on a tight mountain track. The signature hole, the par 3 15th, is a short par 3 where the green sits in front of a massive rock formation while short of the green is cat tail filled penalty area. The green runs horizontal to the tee box and presents a sliver like landing area. It’s thoughtful holes like this that fill the routing and make every hole enjoyable. Long 4s, short 4s, up hill par 5s, forced carries, centerline bunkers, centerline boulders, tiny greens, long greens, ponds… this course has an almost unlimited amount of defining features. Awesome green sites are present on almost every hole and in classic dye fashion he provides challenges and thought into nearly every tee shot. If you are in the NY/CT area I highly recommend this track
This course is such an underrated gem. Props to you Mr. Dye, you created an absolute masterpiece. The front nine at pound ridge is one of the most fun routings I’ve ever played. The first three holes especially are just incredible and provide a great challenge. One sick thing about the #RIDGE is that no two holes are alike and they require you to shape the ball both ways and hit every club in your bag. The many bunkers at the #POUND are so well placed and can definitely get you in to trouble if you are not careful. I cannot express how much I enjoyed the greens at pound ridge. They all had insane undulations and provided some crazy putts. Walking off each green, me and my playing partner Mr. Doakito would just talk about how sick different pin positions would be on every green. Additionally, I love that Mr Dye did not fall into the trap of surrounding every green with rough. He created some of the sickest and challenging collection areas I’ve ever seen. If you are ever in the area or in NYC I would HIGHLY recommend making the drive to go play the #RIDGE. You will have a chance to play some incredible holes and maybe even take home the flag on 12 if you make a hole in one.
