PORT JEFFERSON COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Port Jefferson, NY, USA
Designed by Alfred H. Tull

Port Jefferson Country Club sits on Long Island's North Shore in the village of Port Jefferson, overlooking Long Island Sound. The course was designed by Alfred H. Tull, a regional architect active in the early twentieth century who laid out several courses across New York and New England. Tull's work typically emphasized strategic bunkering and greens that rewarded thoughtful approach play, and his designs often made effective use of natural terrain rather than extensive earthmoving.
The property occupies rolling terrain characteristic of the North Shore's glacial moraine landscape, with elevation changes that provide views of the harbor and sound. The routing takes advantage of these natural contours, creating a variety of stances and approach angles. Mature trees frame many holes, and the proximity to the water influences playing conditions, particularly wind direction and intensity.
Port Jefferson Country Club has served as a traditional member club for the local community since its establishment. The course reflects the scale and character typical of early American club designs—walkable, with strategic interest built into relatively modest yardages by modern standards. The setting in Port Jefferson, a historic maritime village with ferry service to Connecticut, gives the club a distinct sense of place within Long Island's golf landscape. The course provides a straightforward test of accuracy and course management rather than relying on length or dramatic hazards.
Reviews
Port Jeff is on the Long Island Sound, so expect some wind. Certainly better than a municipal, the Jeff is in decent condition, however not up there with the likes of other clubs. I do not love the layout of the front 9 and the back 9 certainly takes the cake here. Still a good play.
