PLUM CREEK GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Castle Rock, CO, USA
Designed by Pete Dye
Plum Creek Golf & Country Club sits in Castle Rock, Colorado, roughly midway between Denver and Colorado Springs along the Front Range. Pete Dye designed the course, which opened in the mid-1980s as part of a master-planned residential community. The layout occupies rolling terrain characteristic of the high plains transitioning to the foothills, with elevation changes and natural arroyos shaping the routing. Views of the Rocky Mountains provide a dramatic western backdrop.
Dye's design incorporates his signature architectural elements adapted to the Colorado landscape: railroad ties framing bunkers and hazards, strategic bunkering that demands precise placement, and greens with pronounced contours. The course plays at elevation—around 6,200 feet—which affects distance and ball flight. Native grasses, scrub oak, and scattered ponderosa pines define the playing corridors, and several holes feature water hazards that come into play on approach shots.
The club serves a private membership drawn largely from the Castle Rock and southern Denver metro area. Plum Creek functions as a family-oriented country club with tennis, swimming, and dining facilities complementing the golf course. The layout provides a test suited to the high-altitude conditions, where firm turf and afternoon winds are common factors. While not a tournament venue of national prominence, the course reflects Dye's ability to craft challenging, strategic golf within a residential community setting.
Reviews
Was really cool in the mountains surrounded by trees and water was very fun to play and pretty difficult
One of the best in Colorado. Has always had great bones, now it’s in better shape. Wish they kept the railroad ties. Would be even higher but it’s too short for being at altitude
One of my favorite courses to play in the Denver area. Not particularly long and definitely a second shot course. Typical Pete Dye trickery. Very enjoyable round
